PURPOSE: This Request for Application (RFA) will be used to select organizations to receive a Grant Agreement (GA) for one (1) year beginning in Fiscal Year 2027 (July 1, 2026, ending June 30, 2027). Any grants awarded via this process are subject to available funding, grantee performance, and responsiveness to deliverables and outcomes.

The New Mexico Children’s Justice Act Advisory Group (CJAAG) provides expert guidance and oversight for the distribution of federal Children’s Justice Act (CJA) funds managed by the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD). Comprised of multidisciplinary leaders, including representatives from the courts, law enforcement, child welfare, and medical fields. CJAAG directs these resources to improve the investigation, prosecution, and judicial handling of child abuse and neglect cases.

The primary mission of the CJAAG is to foster a system that minimizes additional trauma for child victims, particularly in cases of sexual abuse, exploitation, fatalities, and cases involving children with disabilities. By leveraging these funds, the CJAAG ensures that New Mexico’s response to child maltreatment is coordinated, effective, and centered on the protection of the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

CJAAG Priority Objectives:

  • Improve the investigation, prosecution, and judicial handling of cases through training, education, or development of process and protocol.
  • Provide education and/or training programs focusing on medical forensic response to child sexual abuse cases.
  • Reduce additional trauma to the child victim.
  • Improve the investigation and prosecution of human trafficking.
