Foster Care with CYFD

Become A Resource/Foster Family and Transform Lives!

A CYFD Resource Foster/Parent provides a safe and nurturing environment to children who cannot live at home with their families due to factors that may be unsafe for them.

Resource/Foster Parents open their homes and their hearts to these children by cultivating safety, growth, and learning in a comfortable family setting. Resource/Foster Parents encourage children to remain connected to their religion, culture, and community. These families have an opportunity to build lifelong relationships with the children in their care.

Types of Foster Care



Kinship/Relative

Children/youth placed with a family member, relative or fictive family member. These placements account for 50% of placements in New Mexico.



Foster

Provides care to children in State custody in a home setting for a longer stay while family works towards permanent plan.



Foster Care +

Enhanced program aimed at providing care for children/youth who require more intensive services due to medical, behavioral or emotional needs.



Treatment

Specialized program that provided intensive, individualized treatment to children in State custody. This program includes a team of professionals to address specific needs.



Foster to Adopt

Provides care to children in State custody with the intention of becoming a permanent home for that child/youth.



Respite

Provides short term care for children placed primarily in another resource foster home.

Foster Care

Foster & Kinship/Relative Parents in New Mexico play a vital role in providing safe, stable, and nurturing environments for children who are unable to remain with their biological families.

They offer care, support, and guidance during challenging times, often serving as a bridge to reunification with biological families or adoption. New Mexico provides a diverse community of caregivers, welcoming single individuals, couples and families of all backgrounds.

Becoming a Foster & Kinship/Relative parent involves meeting specific eligibility requirements, undergoing training, and obtaining licensure through CYFD. Foster & Kinship/Relative parents receive support, ongoing training, and access to community resources to ensure they meet the needs of the children in their care.
