Family Outreach Pilot


Not all calls to our child-abuse hotline meet the requirements that would demand a response from CYFD case managers. Some cases that CYFD encounters are far more serious than others. However, the Department believes that our services and resources should be available in a more preventative manner to the public at large. 

Even if a call does not result in an investigation or other CYFD contact, we often check back in with families to see if they need anything. CYFD is excited to pilot a new program, Family Outreach, to offer preventative support. The referral is entirely voluntary.

When we follow up, we often find out that there are ways that CYFD can be of service to New Mexico families. If a family agrees to services, they are empowered to advocate for their own needs through a comprehensive Family Questionnaire. Based on the family’s needs, the Family Outreach Advocate will connect the family to a community-based agency in the family’s county.

Once the family is engaged with the provider, Family Outreach involvement is concluded. Family Outreach is informed of services provided to families so data can be collected to use to expand our service array and Family Outreach to more counties statewide. The community-based agency works directly with the family to provide and/or connect them with resources tailored to the family’s needs such as housing, budget management, clothing, food, and mental and behavioral health services.

Family Outreach is currently in the pilot stage and is available in Catron, Lea, Lincoln, McKinley, Mora, Otero, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Sierra, Socorro, and Valencia Counties.
